Samsung Galaxy M30 Review
Build & Design
Samsung had refused to follow the notch craze that all the other major players had jumped into in 2019. However, the Korean phone maker has finally given in and jumped into the notch bandwagon. Samsung Galaxy M30 is one of the first phones from the company with a notched display. It has a V-shaped waterdrop notch.
The V shaped notch with smooth curves houses the front camera. The bezels surrounding the display are very narrow and the chin at the bottom is smaller than what we have seen in other affordable smartphones.
The back cover is polycarbonate. It looks a bit cheap, but this shouldn’t be an issue. We have to understand that Samsung had to cut some corners to keep the price of the M30 low. The fingerprint scanner is well placed at the back. I’ve seen some people complain that it’s too close to the top, but personally, think it’s well-placed because I think it can be reached without a sense of struggle.
Overall, Samsung M30 is a decent looking phone. It looks good from the front, especially when the display is on. The rear panel is simple. This smartphone has a dedicated memory card slot and comes with USB type C port. The oval fingerprint scanner is well placed and it is reasonably easy to reach the volume rocker and power button when you hold the phone in one hand.
Samsung chose to use an AMOLED on the Galaxy M30. This means this display is better than what you get in the Samsung M20. The display is not lacking as far as quality is concerned. It is crisp and displays images with vibrant colors.
The small notch helps to maximize the phone’s viewing area. However, Samsung M30 does not provide the option of hiding the notch.
Performance & Software
The Galaxy M30 is one of the first devices to be equipped with Exynos 7904 chipset. This chipset has two Cortex A-73 cores and six Cortex A-53 core. It’s a 14nm chipset.
The new processor is paired with 4GB of RAM. It has 64GB onboard storage space.
Well, Exynos 7904 is not the most powerful processor installed in phones within M30’s price range but is better than the processors that were installed J series phones. You will not face any issues when you used the phone for your usual day to day activities. You should not expect any lagging at all, even when you play casual games. However, there might be some lagging when you try playing high-end games such as PUBG.
Face unlock is fairly fast but not very secure. Some people have complained that can close your eyes and still be able to unlock the phone. The fingerprint scanner, on the other hand, is quick and efficient.
This mobile phone runs on Android v8.0 Oreo with Experience UI. The UI on Samsung M series smartphones has been optimized for devices with low-end hardware. It is stable, pleasant and its design and look is similar to that of One UI.
Samsung M30 Camera Performance
M30 is equipped with a 13 MP primary shooter that the back paired with a 5 MP wide-angle camera and a 5 MP depth sensor. The front-facing camera is 16 MP.
There are few competing phones with better camera specifications on paper. However, the most important thing is how the cameras perform in the real world.
The primary shooter on Galaxy M30 takes decent quality shots. You will take quality pictures in good light. The camera struggles a bit in low light.
The front camera takes good quality selfies outdoors but struggles in low light environments.
Samsung Galaxy M30 is one of the best camera phones in its class as far as photography is concerned. Despite the few issues with camera performance in low light areas, the Galaxy M30 is still a worthy choice for you if you in the market for phone 25000. It is a better phone in many other aspects than most of its competitors.
Battery, Connectivity & Extras
M30 has a USB type C port that supports 15W fast charging. As of now, there are very few budget phones with this type of port and with fast charging support. It takes around two hours to fully recharge the 5000mAh battery that powers the Samsung Galaxy M30. Battery mileage is awesome. If good battery life is one of the most important things you are looking for in a phone, the M30 is fantastic. After charging it in the morning, you can use it for a full day (even if you are a heavy user) and you will not able to drain the battery.
Verdict: Should You Buy It?
This phone shows that Samsung has decided to take a very big step forward as far as budget phones are concerned. It has an awesome Infinity V display, solid battery life and many features that are rare among affordable phones. If you are biased towards tire-1 brands, this Samsung M30 is a good choice. If you want a better feature, you can opt for the Samsung M40 or the Galaxy A50 but you should be prepared to pay more. If you want almost the same features at a lower price, you can opt for Samsung Galaxy A30 – it is a solid choice for anyone looking for a good smartphone under 20k.
