Since the beginning of 2018, after Apple launched the iPhone X, all manufacturers have been working to eliminate bezels from their phones. The biggest hurdle as always been the selfie camera. Phone makers have been looking for the best way to place the selfie camera in phones while minimizing the amount of space it takes in the front area. Oppo F11 Pro shows just how far manufacturers are willing to go to maximize the screen area. Although the pop-up selfie mechanism is not entirely new, the F11 Pro prides itself as the first fairly affordable device with a pop-up selfie camera.
Oppo F11 Pro was launched in Kenya a few weeks ago. Here is a summary of its specifications:

- 128GB onboard storage
- Dual 48MP + 5MP back camera

Oppo F11 Pro design & display
It’s hard to come across ugly phones these days. All manufacturers are working hard to create phones with outstanding designs. As they strive to outshine each other, we are seeing phones with more sophisticated designs being released every other month. And this is a good thing for consumers. Oppo F11 Pro is truly gorgeous. It is undoubtedly one of the best-looking phones. Despite the fact that its body is plastic, it looks so good, better than many phones with glass backs. F11 Pro’s back has a gradient finish that really enhances its beauty. This phone is available in two colors: Aurora Green and Thunder Black.
The F11 Pro’s trimmed edges help the user have a comfortable grip. You can enjoy one-handed use if you’ve got fairly big hands, However, the phone is pretty slippery. There is a bundled plastic cover that helps to minimize damage in case it’s dropped.
The highlight of this phone is its pop-up selfie camera. Oppo F11 Pro has motorized components inside its chassis that push the front camera up whenever you want to take a selfie. The sliding mechanism is quite fast. According to Oppo, the sliding front camera mechanism can be used up to 100 times daily, for six years without failing.
Like any other phone, Oppo F11 has its flaws. The back looks good but it is a fingerprint magnet. It smudges easily, you need a wipe it with microfiber cloth from time to time to keep it looking good. Furthermore, this phone comes with a microUSB port. Come on Oppo. It’s 2019! This is disappointing since many devices in its price range (and cheaper ones) have USB type C ports.
The F11 Pro has a rear-mounted capacitive fingerprint scanner. This was a good move by Oppo. This is because we have seen many phones in 2019 which boast of in-screen fingerprint scanners that are very slow and unreliable (e.g. Samsung Galaxy A50). Furthermore, it has face unlock features which is just as reliable as the fingerprint sensor.
Oppo F11 Pro has the 3.5mm headphone jack, a feature that is increasingly becoming rare in today’s phones.
Since the front camera takes zero space at the front, this phone has extremely thin bezels. It has 90.3% screen to body ratio. The 6.53-inch HD display has full HD+ resolution. It is sharp and its big size makes it perfect for media consumption.
Performance and software
Oppo F11 Pro is equipped with MediaTek’s Helio P70 processor. This processor is coupled with 6GB of RAM and 128GB onboard storage. Well, this is a fairly powerful chip, but its also found in devices that are cheaper than the F11 Pro. However, we should understand that the manufacturer had to cut corners to give us a device with the pop-up camera design at a low price.
Performance is good. 6GB of RAM should keep all apps running smoothly while multitasking. You can play resource-intensive games such as PUBG on high settings without any problems.
Oppo F11 Pro boasts of a 48MP main camera. Under low light environments, this camera outputs 12MP images. It is paired with a 5MP depth sensor. The selfie camera is 16MP.
The 48MP imaging sensor at the back is quite capable. It captures detailed shots with good colors. The rear camera mostly captures images with 12MP resolution. However, the phone allows you to manually switch to 48MP when you want to take crispier shots. However, you should keep in mind that when you set it to 48MP, you will not be able to use features such as AI scene recognition, HDR, zoom, and beautification.
Oppo F11 Pro night mode helps you click good quality images at night. Like other F series phones, this phone does not disappoint as far as selfies are concerned. It takes high quality, Instagram-worthy selfies, especially when you take them on a sunny day outdoors. The device has on-scream flash functionality for low light environments. The front-facing shooter also has the portrait mode, allowing you to take photos with blur effect. However, it struggles a bit to separate objects and the background.
This mobile phone packs a 4000mAh battery. It can power it for a full day of moderate to heavy use. You can play games, watch YouTube videos, browse on Wi-Fi or 4G and still have enough juice when you get back home in the evening. Furthermore, the F11 Pro has support for 20W VOOC fast charging. You can always recharge it fast whenever you want to head out.
