Nokia 9 PureView Design & display
When you take a quick look at this phone, you will realize it follows the design footprint we have seen in other Nokia smartphones. It has a glass front and back sandwiched by an aluminum frame. Nokia is known for making some of the best-looking phones and the 9 PureView is no different. Well, it’s not the most stylish flagship you can buy in Kenya but it looks good.
The rear panel is glass. This makes it a fingerprint magnet. You have to wipe the back from time to time to keep it looking good. The power button and volume rockers are on the right side. The USB type C port is at the bottom while the microSD card strays are at the top. Unfortunately, this mobile phone does not have a 3.5mm headphone port. Nokia 9 PureView is available in one color – deep Midnight Blue.
The OLED display on the PureView measures 5.99 inches and has a resolution of 2880 by 1440 pixels. The display is bright and sharp. Images are bright and have vivid colors.
The display does not have a notch. Nokia decided to have a small flat section at the top that to house the front camera, speaker and the Nokia logo. There is also a small chin at the bottom.
Most flagships released in 2019 have in-screen fingerprint scanners. Nokia 9 PureView is no different. However, most people using this phone have complained about the responsiveness of the scanner. It is slow and fails to recognize registered fingerprints most of the time. Nokia released a software update to fix the issue but users still complain that the problem persists. Fortunately, it has the face unlock feature.
The penta-lens back camera is the feature that gets many people excited about this phone. This camera outperforms the cameras of many phones in its price range but does not beat cameras installed in top tier flagships like the Samsung Galaxy Note 10. It is a good camera phone, but not the best you can buy.
Three of the five rear cameras have monochrome lenses. The other two are in color and have f/1.8 apertures. The different lenses capture images simultaneously and combine them to produce an image with the best detail. If you love taking monochrome photos, Nokia 9 PureView is perhaps one of the best phones you can buy.
The front camera is 20MP and captures good quality photos in places with good light.
Although the PureView is equipped with 2018’s Snapdragon 845 chipset. It is one of the most powerful devices in its class. This processor is paired with 6GB of RAM. There is 128GB onboard storage space and there is no microSD card slot.
This phone runs basic Android 9.0 Pie out of the box without bloatware. Since it is featured in the Android One program, you should expect swift Android updates regularly. Nokia 9 PureView should be one of the first phones to be upgraded to Android Q.
This device is powered by a 3320mAh battery. The battery can power the phone for a full day on a single charge. It is bundled with an 18W fast charger that helps to juice it up in a short time.
Nokia 9 PureView Pros and Cons
- Decent camera performance
- Eye-catching design
- Pure android experience
- Give the user ability to export RAW DNG
- Slow fingerprint scanner
Nokia 9 PureView is undoubtedly one of the best phones from HMD Global so far. The main highlight of this phone is its rear camera with 5 lenses that combine all images captured into one. It is a good choice if you are keen on having a phone that takes quality photos and videos. However, despite it having a 5-lens camera setup, it does not outshine the camera performance of pricier flagships. As far as performance is concerned, PureView has powerful internals that should keep things running smoothly.
