Design & Display

Today’s budget phones are nothing like the budget phones we had a few years ago in terms of design. Manufacturers are making affordable phones that are well designed – it is becoming harder and harder to estimate the price of a phone just by looking at it. Nokia 3.2 is one such phones. It is a good-looking phone with a beautiful large 6.26-inch display with a waterdrop notch. The back is polycarbonate, but it does not make it look cheap.  The 3.2 is available in two colors: Black and Steel.

This phone has a lot of design similarities with its more expensive sibling, the Nokia 4.2. the 3.5mm audio jack, Google Assistant Button, and micro USB port are in the same location as those of its sibling.  The LED notification light is integrated on the power button.  At the back, you will see the 13MP camera module and a fingerprint scanner conveniently placed below it.

The 6.26-inch waterdrop notch display has a resolution of 720 pixels by 1520 pixel. The display is surrounded by thin bezels.  It is bright and has decent viewing angles. Unfortunately, this display lacks Widevine L1. This basically meant that you can’t stream HD content from Netflix and other popular video streaming platforms.

Software, Hardware & Performance

If you are looking for a phone that will offer good performance on a budget, the 3.2 is one of the phones that you should consider.  This phone is powered by Snapdragon 429 processor and has 2GB of RAM (3GB RAM variant is not available in Kenya).  Nokia 3.2 has 16GB onboard storage space and there is a microSD card slot that allows you to expand storage up to 400GB.

The usual everyday apps load reasonably fast. You should also expect to play light games such as Shadow Fight 3 on this phone without any problems. However, the phone will struggle if you try to play games that use a lot of resources, such as the PUGB.  If you love gaming on your phone, this is obviously not the best device for you.

Nokia 3.2 runs Android v9.0 Pie out of the package.  It is powered by a beefy 4000mAH battery which can easily power it through a day of moderate use.  Unfortunately, there is no fast charging support. It takes a long time to fully recharge the 4000mAh battery.

Nokia 3.2 comes with a single 13MP pixels camera at the back. It does not have a secondary back camera like its sibling. This is a little disappointing since many phones in its price range, like the Infinix Smart 3 Plus, have dual and triple-lens rear cameras.  The 13MP rear shooter is accompanied by an LED flash. The selfie camera is 5MP.  The camera software is pretty simple since it’s an Android One device.

The camera captures good quality photos in places with good light.  Shots captured outdoors have good detail and accurate colors.  Since there is no depth sensor at the back, there is no portrait mode.  Selfies are good in places with adequate light. The front shooter struggles in places with low light.

Nokia 3.2 can capture 1080p vides. It does not support slow-mo video recording.

There are many things that make the Nokia 3.2 a good choice for individuals looking for a good affordable phone – good battery life, large HD display, and attractive design. It is a solid choice if your budget is around 12K. However, if you want a phone that can handle heavy tasks and gaming, it may not be the best choice.
