Tecno has launched a new “smart feature phone” running on the KaiOS. The phone, named Tecno T901, targets users in Africa. The new handset is expected to retail at $25 (approximately KSh. 2500). The highlights of this phone include dual SIM support, 2.4 inches display with a resolution of 240 by 320 pixels and a 1900mAh battery that can power it for up to 25 days on standby.
The T901 offers various connectivity options including 3G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, GPS, and NFC. Like other KaiSO enabled devices, the new Tecno device comes with WhatsApp, Facebook, Google Assistant, Google Maps and Youtube. More apps are available via the KaiStore.
Tecno T901 will be available in three colors – blue black and gold. I’m not sure whether this device will be available in Kenya. Tecno has not named the countries that it will make it available.

According to Sebastien Codeville, KaiOS Technologies CEO, the new partnership between Tecno And KaiOS is a significant milestone because it’s going to help reduce the digital divide in Africa. Availability of apps like Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, Twitter, Google Maps and Google Assistant. Users will have almost everything they need to stay connected to the rest of the world, just like Android and iOS users.
Unlike other similar phones which can only connect to 2G networks, Tecno T901 can connect to 3G – which means its users will enjoy faster upload and download speeds. The presence of a front camera and a back camera with flashlight makes it possible for T109 users to capture clear images even when they are in places with low light.
