Huawei has made the Mate 20 X 5G official. As the name suggests, this phone is a 5G variant of the Huawei Mate 20 X, a phone that was launched in November 2018. The two phones have almost everything in common.
However, it was surprising to most of us to learn that the 5G variant has a lower battery capacity. This was probably necessary because the Chinese phone maker wanted to maintain the same dimensions but had to add 5G components into the phone. The Mate 20X 5G is equipped with a 4200mAh battery while the 4G version has a 5000mAh battery. Although this might be a little disappointing, it important to note that it supports 40W fast charging technology while the non-5G Mate 20 X gets 22.5W fast charging.
Kirin 980 chipset powers this 5G device. It is paired with Huawei’s Balong 5000 modem, the first ever 7nm 5G multi-mode chip in the world. It supports the use of the M-Pen stylus with 4,096 pressure levels. This accessory is sold separately.
The camera setup is the same as that of the non-5G Mate 20 X. It is equipped with a triple lens rear camera with a 40MP main shooter with f/1.8 aperture, 20MP ultra-wide lens with f/2.2 aperture and an 8MP f/2.4 5x optical zoom telephoto lens. It runs on Android v9.0 pie with Huawei’s EMUI 9 and it has the same 7.2-inch display.
This phone is priced at £999 in the UK. This translates to around KSh. 112,000.
